[GCP] GRACE BITUTHENE® Primer N

[GCP] GRACE BITUTHENE® Primer N

Product Description

BITUTHENE® Primer N is a bitumen-based primer in solvent which is designed to penetrate and seal porous surfaces to provide good initial adhesion and excellent permanent adhesion of Bituthene Waterproofing Membranes under many kinds of conditions.

Uses

Bituthene Primer N is used to prime many substrates such as metal, slate and all structural concrete, masonry and wood surfaces, on which Bituthene Waterproofing Membranes are to be applied.

Bituthene Primer N is an integral part of the Bituthene Waterproofing Systems. Sufficient primer must be used on the dry surface to condition it to a dust-free state that is suitable for the application of Bituthene Waterproofing Membranes. Other applications include anti-corrosion coating for metal surfaces.

Applications

Bituthene Primer N may be applied by spray, roller or brush. Use a heavy nap roller with natural material such as lamb’s wool to avoid deterioration.

Apply Bituthene Primer N to clean, dry, dust-free and frost-free surfaces at different suggested coverage per litre. Deep puddles of primer should be avoided as this will lengthen drying time. Rollers or brushes should be dipped into pans to avoid pouring primer directly on the deck and creating puddles. Stir emulsion well before use and allow solvent for evaporate before application of other materials. Allow Bituthene Primer N to dry two hours, or until tack-free. On warm days drying may require as little as 30 minutes.

Priming should be limited to what can be covered with Bituthene Waterproofing Membrane in a working day. Any area not covered  with membrane during the day must be re-primed. Be sure to cover open pails when not applying primer.

Clean tools with white or mineral spirits or paint thinner at the end of each day. Rollers can be wrapped tightly overnight in plastic film or release paper from Bituthene Waterproofing Membrane. (White or mineral spirits and paint thinner are combustible liquids and should be used with care in accordance with the safety instructions of the manufacturer.)
